Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama Padmavati irked the Karni Sena, an organisation of the Rajput community, who protested against the film for allegedly having a dream lovemaking scene between Rani Padmini and Alauddin Khilji and distorting historical facts. The sets of the film were vandalised and even Bhansali was slapped during the events.The film’s scheduled date of December 1 was also deferred until further notice.
The controversy turned ugly when members of Karni Sena issued a Rs.10 lakh bounty on Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s head.
2.Kangana Ranaut’s nepotism remarks on ‘Koffee With Karan’
Kangana sparked anationwide debate after she called Karan Johar the flagbearer of nepotism on ‘Koffee With Karan’. At the IIFA Awards event, Karan, Saif Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan poked fun at Kangana by chanting ‘nepotism rocks’ on stage. However, they later apologised for their remarks.
3.Ranbir Kapoor-Mahira Khan smoking pics go viral
Pictures of Pakistani actress Mahira Khan and Ranbir Kapoor smoking in New York went viral in September, sparking rumors of their relationship.While Mahira was shamed for her act, Ranbir came to her rescue along with Pakistani artists and issued a statement supporting the actress. Mahira made Bollywood debut with Raees this year.
4.Mira Rajput’s ‘puppy’ remark
In March, Shahid Kapoor’s wife Mira Rajput received widespread criticism after she said,”I woulddn’t want to spend one hour a day with my child and rush off to work. Why did I have her(Misha)? She is not a puppy, you know.I want to be there for her as a mother”
5.Sonu Nigam’s Azaan tweet
Sonu Nigham’s tweet on Azaan in April attracted widespread criticism. He had tweeted,”God bless everyone. I’m not a Muslim and I have to be woken up by the azaan in the morning. When will this forced religiousness end in India?’Sonu even shaved off his head after a Muslim cleric announced a reward of Rs.10 lakh for the same.
6.Nawazuddun Siddiqui’s memoir
In October, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui apologised and withdrew his book ‘An Ordinary Life’.This happened after his former girlfriends Sunita Rajwar and Niharika Singh accused him of making false claims about their relationships in the book for publicity.
His biography had been made available in stores for the general public on October 25.
7.Akshay Kumar’s national award, Mallika Dua ‘Bajata Hoon’ row
Akshay Kumar winning the National Film Award for Best Actor for Rustom raised many eyebrows as it was felt the decision was unfair. The actor was caught again in controversy when Mallika Dua’s father and renowned journalist Vinod Dua lashed out at him for making a comment on hi daughter “Mallika ji aap bell bajao, mai aapko bajata hoon” on the sets of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge show.
8.Pahlaj Nihalani fired as India’s Censor Board Chairman
The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting fired Pahlaj Nihalani from his position as the Chairman of India’s Censor Board and replaced him with lyricist-screenwriter Prasoon Joshi. Nihalani had been inducted as the Board’s chief on January 19,2015.
9. Kangana Ranut-Hrithik Roshan’s spat
The controversy between Kangana and Hrithik was fueled after Kangana appeared on the show ‘Aap Ki Adalat’ and demanded an apology from Hrithik for causing mental trauma over their alleged relationship. Later, Hrithik gave an interview to a news channel and denied being in a relationship with Kangana.
