From a Village of Millionaires to a Village of Snakes: Here are 10 Unique Indian Villages that will amaze you

A sundry and united mixture of dynasties, traditions, languages, trends and voice — this is what India comprises of. Every state, every city, every village, entry street is different, yet fit in together like a jigsaw puzzle!

With such diversity, the Indian nomenclature has set a benchmark that can only be decoded with the help of a special Indian version dictionary.

Here are a few villages whose names and intellectuality are brainstorming!

1. Uppal

Situated in Punjab’s Jalandhar, this village is famous for water tanks over its houses. They defy the conventional black, cylindrical costume. Instead, every home has a ship, an airplane, a car and even a horse-shaped water tank that one can view from afar. Water tanks are so cool, they have their own Halloween party everyday!

2. Malana

Ancient village in Himachal, isolated from the world, covered by peaks, residents believe they’re predecessors of Alexander — this sounds like a place where you can escape to meditate. Touching walls or natives’ belongings can impose fine, and Akbar is their God. This village is preserving history, civics and geography since forever !

3. Dhokda

Located in Kutch, Gujarat, this village is famous for its white revolution. This is such a raw, crude place that no one sells dairy products, rather give them for free to those who don’t rear cattle. And this is how native purity win hearts!

4. Kodinhi

A very special village which is known for its exceptional number of twins. Out of every 1,000 mothers, 45 give birth to twins which rates this village out-of-the-way by 700% higher from the rest of the globe !

5. Hiware Bazar

Once a cementery for farmers who committed suicides due to droughts, this village in Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra is an abode to 60 millionaires and barely and poor farmer. People are now ready to face any challenge, making Hiware Bazar the richest village in India. Hard work will always yield success, need more proof?

6. Punsari

Model houses with toilets, primate health center, two primary schools, solar-powered lighting, independent bus system, clean drinking water at ₹4 per 20 liters water-can, well maintained drainage system — these basics doesn’t even begin to define this Gujarati village.
With Wi-Fi all over the village, CCTV at strategic points, public address system with about 140 loudspeakers, Punsari is topping the charts of development over many Metropolitans. Villagers has insurance and medi-claim as well.
Actually, it’s all about harnessing Government schemes optimally.

7. Shetphal

Located in Solapur district of Maharastra, each house in Shetphal has an abode for guests — guests that make this village offbeat. These are the most poisonous and dangerous Cobra snakes.
Due to such hospitality of snakes, not a single case of snakebite has been reported from the village over
years. Atleast some places in the world are animal-friendly !

8. Shani Shingnapur

Another epitome from Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, this village has its own stupefying customs. Resident houses, police station, resorts, guest houses — all WITHOUT doors and windows ++ yet no cases of theft or murder or rape. It’s time for everyone to shift to such villages.

9. Chappar

Comprising of best female athletes, yet dishonorable scale of female feticide — irony never fails to surprise us. Chappar is a very remote village in Haryana where every female birth us celebrated throughout the village, and women no longer don veils.

10. Korkrebeller

Because using scarecrows in farms in too mainstream !
Farmers in this village have built special areas to feed birds. The village is an abode to rare bird species, with special health care places for wounded birds. Another bird sanctuary perhaps ?

“Simple and natural things are free from obscenity and vulgarity.”

Such primitive and ordinary living, yet such treasure of knowledge and love — if there is paradise on Earth, it is here, it is here.

Sawasdee Thailand: Trip done right !

Shreya Mishra

People and places share a beautiful connection with each other. Every place has its own beauty topped with various flavors of culture and people. Thailand had a beautiful history starting from its discovery to establishment. Though these days people term the country as sexual capital of the world but what they have forgotten is the fact that no place is deprived of such services.

Thailand is multicultural, starting from practicing Buddhism to visiting Mosques. Thai people have Lord Ganesha as one of the idols they worship alongside Buddha. Every corner of the country has Buddha idols build by the side or inside a shrine. Apart from the religion, they have a deep respect and love for their former king Bhumibol Adulyadej. His body was preserved for a year after his death and the day on which it was cremated, people came to bow and bid him farewell for the last time. They waited for straight 9 hours to get few seconds with their deceased god.

Bangkok, the capital of the country has many similarities with Delhi. The Thai culture shares many similarities with that of Indian Culture. Hustling and bustling with people, Bangkok shows the city life of Thailand.

For all the shoppers out there, Pratunam Fashion Mall is the local market consisting of over 10,000 shops. It is like modernised version of Sarojini Nagar, with a slight difference that the shops are inside a mall, but the prices remain as cheap as 100 Baht. Thai Baht is the currency of Thailand. 1 Baht is equal to 2.06 Indian Rupee. As you enter the mall, you’ll be loaded with countless shops on various floors in two different buildings. Each building consists of 6 floors. Outside the mall, there are various night markets, which open up after 7 or 8pm.

Another Sarojini version of Bangkok is MBK mall. This mall has over 2000 shops spread over 7 floors. Each floor is specific for various products — mobile shops, tattoo shops, clothing, footwear etc. If you’re interested in sea life then one must visit the underground Ocean in the Siam Paragon Mall. Starting from the giant spider fish to sharks and penguins, they have it all.

Temple Of Emerald Buddha

Those who love visiting historical places and temples, Bangkok offers that tranquility as well. Grand palace and temple of emerald Buddha, are the two most visited places in Bangkok. The palace has a ceremonial room where a new king is coronated once the king dies. The current King of Thailand is Maha Vajiralongkorn. The palace is open for public and the temple is open for the public as well. The temple has Thai version of Ramayana painted on the walls of the temple. The temple also has various idols of Lord Vishnu.

Wat Pho, Thailand

Another most unusual and famous temple is Wat Pho, which has a huge idol of Buddha lying on the floor resting. The other places include various government building, kick boxing stadium and temples.

Chicken Island

If people want to see the real beauty of Thailand, then move to the islands. It is a never-ending adventure in Phuket, Pataya, Phi Phi Leh, Phi Phi Don, Chicken Island (because it is naturally formed in the shape of a chicken head), Coral Islands, James Bond island, Ravayadee Island etc.All these have beautiful beaches and amazing views. Best time to visit the place is during winters as the weather is steadily beautiful. The islands don’t offer much of luxuries, but they do offer proper Thai cuisine, scenic views and beauty.

If you have a bucket list, put Thailand under the most aesthetically pleasant places in the world.

North East remains eternally beautiful with their revived culture !!

Shatakshi Saxena

“ Good people don’t have to say they are good people, it just shows.” – Shaun Parker

When we travel, as a tourist we always love and expect to witness great hospitality. We create impressions of that place not by its beauty but by the kind of behavior we experience from the people there. Indeed, if the natives treat us wonderfully, we will always be smiles talking about them in future. This is something common in human nature.
While on a visit to North East, I came across people who were not only helping but did everything to make me feel home. Irony struck me when I realized we here in the North making fun of the people from East because they do everything possible to keep us smiling?
What a shame!

A tour from Guwahati to Cherrapunji, Mawlynnong, Dwaki and Shillong :

The people won my heart to an inexpressible extent. The fresh weather felt even more beautiful with the kind of hospitality and love I received.

The Confident “Aunty” :

The tallest plunge waterfall in India, Nohkalikai Falls had a small market for tourists. Luckily, we found a large shop with all the traditional stuff of North East. The owner of that shop was an old, cute woman whom we referred to as “Aunty / Dadi.” She was someone who made me feel so homely and at the same time was the perfect example for an independent woman. At the age of 60, she managed her shop so well. We managed to do all our shopping from her shop. She didn’t fool us as tourists, instead she gained immense respect in my heart.

The La-Kupar Inn :

This traditionally decorated hotel or homestay would be a better word, was a bliss to me. Located in the valleys of Cherrapunji, it was full of lovely hospitality and homely treatment. The manager and the entire staff was really polite, friendly and eager to help. They managed to give us a beautiful, cozy room and made sure that our dinner was purely vegetarian. The best part about all of them was their smiling faces.

Mr. John himself received us at the gate and had a bright smile to welcome us. The entire staff when they met us or even saw us, they always smiled and said a hello. They said “feel absolutely at home ma’am.” They guided us about the site seeing as well. Indeed, that place was truly like home with such wonderful people whom I will remember for a lifetime.

The Taxi Tour :

From Shillong, we had to book a taxi for travelling as there was no local transport available. Well, in a new city we always wish to stat safe with a responsible taxi driver. We got that as well with our taxi driver whom we referred to as “Dada”. He was a really kind person with no unnecessary demands or fooling behavior. He always gave us the right advice and managed in all conditions without any complaints. Also, the moment he realized I was prone to vomiting on hills if the car is above the speed of 40 kmph, he drove at a speed of 20-40 kmph.
Even though it was more exhausting for him and the journey of 2 hours went to 2.5 hours, he did it happily without giving it a second thought. He got stuck in traffic just to take me to the church for he valued my religious sentiments!

The Orange Roots :

This place is the best pure vegetarian restaurant in Cherrapunji. When I say best, it’s not only because of the food but again the hospitality and services. We just had to order food and sit comfortably when our food came. While we were eating, I realized that they served us continuously without charging extra. The waitress would come confidently, asking if they could pour some more sambhar or chutney in our plates. They were all independent women, working hard and seemed to love their work. As people from North, we always face food challenges in North East but I definitely didn’t face any.

Itoung Guest House :

This homestay was located in Asia’s cleanest village, Mawlynnong. As we reached there, the caretaker Mr. Julius came all the way to the main market to receive us. He guided us to homestay and was immensely polite. We met some problem on the fare of the room so he connected us to the landlady over call. She again fulfilled the perfect hospitality statement by giving us a reasonable discount, understanding and not fooling us at any time. He rushed with water to our room at 10pm as soon as he realized we needed drinking water. He guided us well and stayed supportive throughout our stay. He bade us a smiling goodbye and wished us a happy journey.

North East and it’s people made me believe in humanity and kindness once again. Somebody guided us to the hotel and someone fed us with Maggi when they realized we couldn’t eat anything else. They possibly knew that as tourists, we not just take back the memories of scenic beauty but the people.

I brought back the most precious memories of sweet, wonderful people ready to help us with a smile. Woman particularly were very independent, working at hotels, having their own shops and loving their independence.
North East gave me the chance to meet wonderful people and made me realize that humanity and love exists. They are all innocent people who actually follow and believe in the Indian culture of “Athiti Devo Bhavah.
